"name": "Intertidal Monitoring of Sabellaria Reef in Cardigan Bay Special Areas of Conservation (SAC) 2007",
"description": "The Habitats Directive establishes that the management of Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) should aim to achieve the favourable conservation status of habitat and species features listed within its Annex I and Annex II. For SACs in Wales, the Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) was therefore required to report on a regular basis on whether features are in favourable conservation status. \r\n\r\nHoneycomb reef worm Sabellaria alveolata is a sedentary, tube-dwelling polychaete most commonly found on rocky substrata in the lower shore and shallow subtidal zones of marine and estuarine areas. The honeycomb reef worm is a UK BAP Priority Habitat (BAP habitats are now Habitats of Principal Importance/Priority Habitats). \r\n\r\nCardigan SAC is designated for a number of features, including Bottlenosed dolphins, Sandbanks, Reefs and Sea Caves, and some intertidal features including areas of bedrock and boulder/cobble habitats and many areas are characterised by biogenic reef formed by the honeycomb reef worm Sabellaria alveolata. \r\n\r\nThis dataset includes the results of a survey of the biogenic reef formed by the honeycomb reef worm Sabellaria alveolata at two sites within Cardigan Bay SAC. The purpose of this data capture was to establish sites for long term monitoring and collect baseline/reference data using appropriate methods. This is a high quality survey carried out by an experienced team of marine biologists.",
