"name": "2010 Defra MB0106 Further development of marine pressure datalayers and ensuring the socio-economic data and datalayers are developed for use in the planning of marine protected area networks",
"description": "This project was established to provide human activity (extent/intensity) and\r\n pressure data layers to support stakeholder engagement and for use in the\r\n selection of sites for conservation. Data have been collated for the territorial\r\n waters of England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales and UK offshore\r\n waters. Objective 1: To collate geodata on human activities in the marine environment\r\n and provide these data in a format which can be used for stakeholder\r\n engagement purposes. These geodata comprise information on the\r\n distribution and frequency of major activities associated with industries\r\n operating in the UK marine environment and include oil and gas, windfarms,\r\n cables, mineral dredging, port/harbour locations, disposal sites, offshore\r\n fishing activity, seabed obstructions and closed areas. Additional work carried\r\n out by ABP-Mer has provided data describing inshore shell-fishery activity,\r\n renewable energy resources, mariculture sites, anthropological and\r\n archaeological sites.\r\n Objective 2: To generate pressure layers indicating the distribution and\r\n intensity of the pressures associated with human activity with an associated\r\n confidence rating. These data will be used to support the MPA selection\r\n process to identify areas where socio-economic activities interact with\r\n conservation features and will be overlain/combined with habitat distribution\r\n and sensitivity information.",
