"name": "Pwll Fanog Slate Wreck - licensee monitoring",
"description": "A series on monitoring inspections of the designated site, by the licensees - part of the original survey/excavation team who formed the North Wales Marine Study Group (still based at the University of Wales, Bangor). This record incorporates the non-intrusive monitoring work on the site by licensees - hence no finds are recorded. The monitoring work is dated to 1981; 1985; 1993/4 and 1995/6; 1997/8, and 2001. The earlies monitoring which followed the 1977/8 excavation noted that the excavation trench sides had collapsed; the team replaced the corroded survey grid with new lines, also adding six concrete survey markers for future survey work. The subsequent seasons reported no changes in wreck stability, although 1995/6 monitoring seems to have taken place over a wider area than the wreck site itself, and noted 'proximal coastal features [such as] an ancient stone quarry close to Pwll Fanog. The whole area [having seemingly been] the centre of stone and slate shipping in the past'. Both the 1993/4, and 1995/6 licensee reports made recommendations that rather than further excavation, the site be used as training ground for maritime archaeologists, particularly in view of rich/diverse marine life on the site. The work followed the earlier excavations recorded as englishh1-93212. Monitoring of the site by the Archaeological Diving Unit (ADU) also took place and is recorded separately. Most recently, monitoring/assessment of the site has been carried out by Wessex Archaeology. Coodinates for the site are derived from the RCAHMW record of the wreck. Neither the size of the survey area nor the depth are known from reports cited.",
