    "description": "Moray Offshore Renewables Ltd (MORL) contracted APEM Ltd to collect additional data on birds and marine mammals by digital aerial survey. These data were used to inform a site specific EIA and cumulative impact assessment, as well as for future use in Appropriate Assessments under the Habitats Directive. The main objectives of the work were to:\r\n\u2022 Collect bird distribution data for a wider area than that covered by the boat-based surveys;\r\n\u2022 Provide data on flight directions for this wider area, in relation to SPA connectivity; and\r\n\u2022 Provide additional data on bird flight heights.\r\n\r\nThe data collected are intended to be suitable to provide additional context for EIA and to inform an Appropriate Assessment for all key species, and in particular for:\r\n\r\n\u2022 Fulmar Fulmarus glacialis\r\n\u2022 Kittiwake Rissa tridactyla\r\n\u2022 Guillemot Uria aalge\r\n\u2022 Razorbill Alca torda\r\n\u2022 Puffin Fratercula arctica\r\n\r\nA total of six aerial surveys of the Moray Firth zone were targeted, falling within the periods listed below with at least three days between each one.\r\n1st to 10th May;\r\n11th to 20th May;\r\n21st to 31st May;\r\n1st to 15th June;\r\n15th to 30th June; and\r\n10th to 20th July.",
