A seventy five turbine windfarm is to be constructed off the North Norfolk coast,\r\nto the North of the Sheringham Shoal and just inside the 12 nautical mile (nm) limit. The\r\ncables will come ashore near to Weybourne.\r\nThis Study. BACTEC has completed an Unexploded Ordnance Threat Assessment of the\r\nProject and the proposed Site.\r\nProposed Works. The foundations for the turbines will be a mono-pile or a number of piles\r\nthat will penetrate the seabed to an estimated maximum depth of 25m. Cables will be buried\r\nin the seabed to a depth of 3m.\r\nThe UXO Threat. Evidence was found of past military activity in the area. These operations\r\ninvolved coastal defences and minefields along the coastline and in the North Sea to protect\r\nWWII Convoy Routes. The Germans laid sea mines in the area from aircraft, ships and\r\nsubmarines with devastating effect. Whilst many of these operations were outside the\r\nimmediate area of the Site, the ensuing effects of the sea, weather and fishing may have\r\ntransported and buried UXO in the area. The Anti Aircraft Gunnery School at Weybourne\r\nwill have sown an offshore area with unexploded munitions.\r\nUnexploded Ordnance (UXO) Risk. The risk from WWII UXO is considered to be as\r\nfollows:\r\nMines - Medium, Aircraft Delivered Bombs - Low, Anti Aircraft Munitions - Low.\r\nIn the circumstances Risk Mitigation Measures are advised.\r\nRisk Mitigation Measures.",
