    "description": "In March 2011 EMU Limited was commissioned by Meygen Limited to assess the hydrodynamic\r\nconditions within the proposed Inner Sound Tidal Energy Site.\r\nTwo acoustic instruments were deployed in the Inner Sound for 30 days. A Nortek 600 kHz Acoustic\r\nWave And Current Profiler (AWAC) was used to produce a current profile of the whole water column\r\nand assess the wave climate. An RD Instruments Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) Workhorse\r\nwas used to gather high resolution turbulence data in the section of the water column where turbines\r\nwill be operating. The two acoustic profilers were deployed in bespoke seabed frames that are\r\ndesigned to be low profile, trawl resistant and to keep the instruments clear of the seabed.\r\nThe initial deployment in April 2011 was aborted after difficulties with the high current speeds in the\r\nInner Sound. After redesigning the moorings, EMU attempted a second deployment on the 21st June\r\n2011. This deployment was successful and data were recovered from both profilers.\r\nThe second attempt was successful and robust data sets were acquired by both instruments, the flows recorded exceeded 4.5 ms and analysis of the data indicated that they could exceed 5 ms. The\r\ndata from both instruments showed a high level of correlation further supporting the robust nature of\r\nthe data sets.\r\nThe project was exceptionally challenging however it has proved that data can be collected in these\r\nextreme conditions.",
