    "description": "The Cornwall FLOW Accelerator (CFA) project is a collaborative project including Celtic Sea Power Ltd (CSP project lead), University of Exeter (UoE), University of Plymouth (UoP) and the Offshore Renewable Catapult (OREC). It aims to develop tools, knowledge and data which accelerate the Celtic Sea FLOW opportunity and lay significant groundwork with respect to developing pipeline at both a FLOW project and supply chain level. The project is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).\r\n The floating LiDAR systems were procured from Akrocean, and it comprises of an Aluminium float with a 6-feet metal container on it. Apart from the LiDAR, the buoy is also fitted with a few accessory sensors like a downward looking ADCP, Wave Sensor, Depth Sensor, Conductivity Sensor, and a Weather station.\r\n The FLS is fitted with a Wave Energy Converter (WEC), solar panels, a battery pack, as well as a methanol fuel cell to meet the energy requirements of the LiDAR, the metocean and subsea sensors, data logging system, power management and the communication systems.\r\n The LiDAR sends infrared laser pulses into the atmosphere, four beams in four cardinal directions along a 28 degrees scanning cone angles.\r\n Laser pulses are backscattered by aerosol particles in the air (dust, water droplets, aerosol, etc.), that move at wind speed. The collected backscattered light allows for the calculation of wind speed and direction using Doppler induced laser wavelength shift. Up to 10 different range gates can simultaneously be measured using the laser pulse time of flight, allowing to measure the wind speed at 10 different heights. A dedicated signal processing algorithm computes wind vector components from four consecutive line-of-sight measurements as well as performs motion compensation. Leosphere Windsoft software controls the hardware and performs the processing. The FLS systems are configured for 10 measurement heights starting from 50 m, all the way up to 275 m for every 25 metres. The configuration considers the height of the buoy and the container.\r\n The pre-validation of the LiDAR units for the current study was carried out during the autumn and winter of 2021-22 in Lichteiland Goeree (LEG) in the Dutch sector of the North Sea by an independent 3rd party organization TNO.
