    "description": "As an integral part of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the proposed offshore wind\r\nfarm development on Gunfleet Sands, offshore Essex, Enron Wind Gunfleet Ltd commissioned an\r\noceanographic measurement programme. Thales Geosolutions (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd, hereafter\r\nreferred to as Thales, have been contracted to deploy two current/wave meters near Gunfleet Sands\r\nfor six months.\r\nGunfleet Sands is located 6km to the southeast of Clacton-on-Sea, and is orientated along a\r\nnortheast \u2013 southwest axis. The instruments were deployed either side of the shallow water to\r\nidentify changes in the current and wave regimes. The equipment was originally deployed on 17th\r\nJanuary 2002. The specification for the contract required the proposed instrumentation to measure current speed\r\nand direction, tidal levels, directional wave parameters and turbidity. The most appropriate instrument\r\nthat satisfied all these requirements was the Valeport 730D; the standard wave, current and tide\r\nrecorders were modified to include a turbidity sensor. Two instruments were initially deployed on 17th\r\nJanuary 2002. The estimated water depths at the deployment locations were 12 metres for the\r\nsouthern site and 13 metres for the northern location (relative to mean sea level). This series contains the reports and datasets associated with the monitoring programme.",
