This CEFAS marine geophysical survey took place in February/March 2006 in the Eastern English Channel aboard the RV CEFAS Endeavour. This survey was undertaken for the Eastern English Channel Marine Habitat Map study (EECMHM) as part of a series of four surveys. The EECMHM study was funded by the Marine Environment Protection Fund (MEPF) a marine component of the Aggregate Levy Sustainability Fund (MALSF). The purpose of this survey was to infill between lines completed during a previous survey in 2005. Sea floor data were collected using an EM3000 multibeam bathymetry system. Backscatter data were collected using sidescan sonar system. These data are archived with the MEDIN Data Archive Centres (DACs), including the BGS DAC for geology and geophysics and multibeam bathymetry data are available from the UKHO Bathy DAC, https://www.gov.uk/guidance/inspire-portal-and-medin-bathymetry-data-archive-centre. Where Hardcopy records exist these have been archived by CEFAS. Cruise summary report available: https://www.bodc.ac.uk/resources/inventories/cruise_inventory/reports/endeavour6_06.pdf. For further information on the surveys and general information on the EECMHM see the final report (James et al, 2007. Cefas Science Series Technical Report No. 139).

Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | Marine Aggregate Levy Sustainability Fund (MALSF) Geophysical and Multibeam Survey 2006/6_MEPF: MALSF Eastern English Channel Marine Habitat Map Study (24/Feb/2006 to 06/Mar/2006) |
Alternative title | The purpose of alternative title is to record any additional names by which the dataset may be known. | CEND 06/06 |
File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | abc9f747-5495-0f38-e044-0003ba9b0d98 |
Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | BGS_CMD_REF590 |
Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | dataset |
Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2006-02-24 |
End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2006-03-06 |

Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Geophysical equipment types used included: Sidescan Sonar. CEFAS was contracted to undertake the survey on behalf of Marine Aggregate Levy Sustainability Fund. For more detailed information on the acquisition equipment and data collection techniques, operational standards, data processing methods and quality control procedures used on this survey see the Report of Survey/Cruise Report and associated documentation where available. The information available may vary depending on the age of the survey. Data are checked and loaded to the BGS Coastal and Marine data management system following BGS marine data management procedures. |
