This is a static layer. This dataset contains Phase 1 level intertidal habitat and substrata information as a seamless layer of communities within the intertidal zone. The intertidal habitat mapping began in 1996 and was completed in 2005. All work has been undertaken by former Countryside Council for Wales' (CCW's) in house intertidal survey team. Surveys were undertaken to provide an assessment of sites as possible Sites of Special Scientific Importance (SSSI's) and as a basis for developing sensitivity mapping. They are also used in the production and evaluation of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA's) and as an integrated information resource for local authorities' structure and development plans on the coast and for the consideration of planning ap plications. A complete validation process has been undertaken. The data available to the public under an Open Government Licence has some information redacted. An un-redacted version can be requested and may be provided under NRW licence.

Part of this dataset is also sensitive and restricted. The sensitive data is as follows; Ostrea edulis. Sensitive data must be kept confidential; general release, is not permitted due to risk of harm to the environment or third parties. Data is released under an OGL licence where sensitive records are removed or shown only at a coarser scale.

Internal code | Internally assigned metadata identifier | 1757 |
Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | Marine Intertidal Phase 1 Biotope Map |
Alternative title | The purpose of alternative title is to record any additional names by which the dataset may be known. | Biotopau Morol Cam 1, mapbiotopes.TAB, Nationally Important Biotopes - Intertidal Habitats 2009, Phase1 Intertidal Biotopes.LYR, Intertidal Habitats 2009.LYR |
File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | 4f4c4942-4343-5764-6473-303939363632 |
Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | 99662 |
Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | dataset |
Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 1996-04-01 |
End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2005-10-31 |
Spatial resolution | This describes the spatial resolution of the dataset or the spatial limitations of the service. | inapplicable |
Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | notPlanned |
Abstract | The abstract provides a clear and brief statement of the content of the resource. | This is a static layer. Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Field survey and manual digitising from hand drawn maps. A separate derived spatial layer was created in 2009 as a subset of this biotope map, showing the nationally important biotopes only. This information is also tagged in the main original layer. Requestors should refer to the original data when enquiring about nationally important biotopes. |
Additional information | This describes relevant references to the data e.g. reports, articles, websites plus other useful information not captured elsewhere. | Some sites have been remapped at a later date and a derived layer is available that merges mapbiotopes.tab with newly mapped areas. Metadata for this layer can be viewed through URI 114453. |
