Use of the National Vegetation Classification (NVC) as a basis for community definition in the saltmarsh habitats of Pen Llyn a'r Sarnau - Glaslyn 1993. The main objective of the survey was to use the National Vegetation Classification to describe and map the unusual brackish water saltmarsh communities on the seaward edge of the marsh as well as characterising some of the transitional vegetation types and the glycophytic communities on the middle and upper marsh.

Abstract | The abstract provides a clear and brief statement of the content of the resource. | Use of the National Vegetation Classification (NVC) as a basis for community definition in the saltmarsh habitats of Pen Llyn a'r Sarnau - Glaslyn 1993. Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Standard NVC survey methodology. All the homogenous stands of different maritime vegetation were identified and mapped. A 4m2 quadrat was then used to estimate the cover abundance (Domin scale) of all taxa found within selected stands of each vegetation type. Computer software package Vespan II was used to store and handle the quadrat data. Data collected by trained personnel, digitised by contractors, validated by NRW, corrections made by contractors, validated again by NRW, corrections made in-house in conjunction with relevant salt marsh specialist. NRW commissioned survey which contributes to an NVC Saltmarsh survey collation (see 'part of' field). |
