Bardsey Island and the adjacent coast of the Llyn Peninsula was one of seven areas proposed by the Nature Conservancy Council for establishment as a statutory marine nature reserve. This dataset contains the results of a survey carried out in 1983 to describe the range of sublittoral habitats and communities present in nearshore sublittoral areas of Bardsey and the Llyn Peninsula. The purpose of this data capture was to survey and describe the range of habitats and communities present in nearshore sublittoral areas and to assess the scientific interest and make recommendations on the conservation importance of the areas surveyed.

Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Surveys were carried out using diving, and access to sites was by inflatable boats. At each site surveyed, a botanist and a zoologist recorded the abundance of conspicuous species in the main habitats encountered. A description of the habitats was made and transcribed on to edge-punched cards. Photographs were also taken to illustrate communities and species present. |
