The Phase 1 Intertidal project was completed in 2005 and maps finalised (see metadata record 24333), however since 2005 selected of areas have been re-mapped as up-to-date information was required for casework and other needs. There is a need to incorporate these newly mapped areas with the original Intertidal data layer and make it available as the most up-to-date data source. A decision was made to only incorporate newly mapped areas or sites and not individual habitats, such as, Sabellaria reefs. The purpose of this data capture was to update the Phase 1 Intertidal biotope and target note layers. From 2005 onwards for updates, but the original sites were mapped from April 1996. The methodology and the maps have undergone quality control independently, but the combined final o utput has not. The data available to the public under an Open Government Licence has some information redacted. An un-redacted version can be requested and may be provided under NRW licence.

Part of this dataset is also sensitive and restricted. The sensitive data is as follows; Ostrea edulis. Sensitive data must be kept confidential; general release, is not permitted due to risk of harm to the environment or third parties. Data is released under an OGL licence where sensitive records are removed or shown only at a coarser scale.

Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Sites or areas were mapped using standard Phase 1 methodologies. Data from these sites is collated with existing data as follows: a) Where the layers overlapped, the original data were cut out and the new data pasted in its place. This was done by cookie cutting using the newer data. Nodes were overlaid to ensure that all intersects had the necessary nodes. b) Where there were a number of slivers as a result of the cut and replace, these were removed and the adjacent polygons tidied up to abut properly. These adjustments were well inside the errors that can be attributed to the survey or digitizing errors (less than metre scale). Data processing notes are maintained for the resulting layers. The dataset builds on data collected for CCW Marine Intertidal Ph ase 1 project. metadata for the project can be viewed through metadata URI 24333. |
