Report following biological surveying of the upper, middle and lower benthic communities of the Humber Estuary. The surveys purpose was to provide information about the key species and communities found in the soft sediments and the conservation importance and condition. Fourty seven stations along the estuary were sampled. Sampling included particle size analysis (PSA) and biological data such as species abundance. Biotopes were then assigned throughout the sampling area and presented in map form.

Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | 2010 Natural England (NE) Humber Estuary, benthic survey |
File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | 5999f740a650e765d2465ea61d1e9100 |
Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | NATENG000284 |
Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | dataset |
Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2010-04-06 |
End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2010-04-08 |
Spatial resolution | This describes the spatial resolution of the dataset or the spatial limitations of the service. | inapplicable |
Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | notPlanned |
Abstract | The abstract provides a clear and brief statement of the content of the resource. | Report following biological surveying of the upper, middle and lower benthic communities of the Humber Estuary. Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | A total of fourty seven stations were sampled throughout the estuary. At each station records were made (where possible, i.e. salinity) and a grab used. The sample from the grab was used for both particle size analysis (PSA) and biological data. The biological analysis of the samples was conducted by Unicomarine Ltd. and the Environment Agency (EA) and the PSA but the EA. The raw biological data, including numbers of taxa and individuals per sample, were used to calculate a number of indices such as Margalef's species richness index (D). Other analysis included taxonomic distinctness. This information was then used to derive biotope data and to produce a series of maps of the estuary. Marine recorder survey number: MRNE013400000010 |
