Abstract | The abstract provides a clear and brief statement of the content of the resource. | 34 Grab samples were collected for macrofaunal analysis, to determine the benthic community composition within the vicinity of the Magnus platform. Samples were also taken for physico-chemical analysis. |
Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | The majority of stations were pre-determined based on previous Magnus sampling sataions and analyses of pre-acquired geophysical data. The scope of work called for 53 stations to be sampled, with 35 located around the Magnus platform and 12 surrounding the Magnus Swift manifold in a cruciform arrangement based on the predominant NNW - SSE current. Six stations targeted nearby well location 211/12a-13, 211/12a-7 and 211/21a-21. At the request of the client only those stations surrounding the Magnus platform were analysed. A single sample was collected from each of these stations for physico-chemical analyses of the sediments; including particle size, organic matter, hydrocarbon and metal analyses. One grab sample was also successfully collected from each of the 34 stations for macrofaunal analyses. All macrofauna samples were screened through a 0.5mm mesh sieve. A habitat assessment survey was also undertaken, consisting of seabed imagery using a digital still camera and video system at five stations, in order to provide information on the presence of potentially sensitive habitats, protected under the UK's Offshore petroleum Activities (Conservation of Habitats) Regulations 2001 (which implements the EC Habitat Directive 92/43/EEC), such as cold water corals or other Annex 1 habitats. |
