Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | 1982-1986 The Wash and its environment |
File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | d3c02164a39f066290d692b8d6b8146c |
Resource Identifier | This is the code assigned by the data owner. | MRMLN00100000108 |
Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | dataset |
Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 1982-01-01 |
End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 1986-12-31 |
Spatial resolution | This describes the spatial resolution of the dataset or the spatial limitations of the service. | inapplicable |
Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | notPlanned |
Abstract | The abstract provides a clear and brief statement of the content of the resource. | Modiolus modiolus presence record from the wash from surveys investigating the marine environment. |
Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Virtually no information on the subtidal ecology of the Wash was available in the early 1980s, with exception of some surveys of commercial fisheries and work carried out for the Anglian Water Authority in the Wash estuaries. In order to address this lack of information and as a contribution to the ecological studies of the Wash which were then in progress, a series of exploratory sublittoral surveys were carried out by the NCC between 1982 and 1986. These surveys were aimed at collecting as much information as possible about the type and distribution of sublittoral habitats and macrofaunal communities within the central and outer Wash. A combination of remote sampling and diving was used for the collection of data, the latter enabling direct observations on the seabed and a photographic record to be made. A preliminary one-day survey in 1982 was carried out by diving and dredging from the MV 'Strandline' and confirmed that Scuba diving was a useful survey tool in the area. Subsequent surveys in 1985 and 1986, carried out from the MV 'Marine Protector II', covered the greater part of the survey area, with a total of 91 survey stations sampled. In the remote sampling programme, three different dredges (Baird, oyster and bucket) were used as available. Therefore semi-quantitive, an abundance scale used when material obtained was analyzed. Dredges rarely collected the infauna at sampling sites. |
