Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by RWE Innogy UK Ltd on behalf of Galloper Wind Farm Limited to prepare a Heritage Method Statement outlining the specific requirements for achieving archaeological objectives during the Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) Clearance and Disposal survey of the Export Cable Route to be undertaken as part of the Galloper Offshore Wind Farm project. During Wessex Archaeology's initial assessment of ROV survey data attained as part of the UXO Clearance and Disposal operations, a named ship's bell was identified close to several contacts of anthropogenic origin, some of which have been identified based a review of ROV stills and video footage as possible wreck-related debris. The contacts identified in the UXO survey were identified and grouped by Wessex Archaeology as 'debris' and classified as A2 ('uncertain origin of possible archaeological interest'). This report details the archaeological nature of the anomalies and in particular an assessment of the location, association and archaeological value of the ship's bell including an assessment of the ship it came from, SS Carica Milica. Furthermore, the report provides potential mitigation options available to safeguard the anomalies from impact associated with the development.
