Walney Offshore Windfarm is located in the East Irish Sea, west of Walney Island. The first transmission cable runs into Morecambe Bay where it is connected to the National Grid transformer station at Hey-sham; the second cable runs to Cleveleys, on the Lancashire/Fylde coast. The construction of Walney Offshore Wind Farm took place in two stages, starting in April 2010 (first stage) and in April 2011 (second stage). Major construction elements were in place in December 2011. The wind farm is now operational and generating power, and commissioning is expected to be complete in June 2012. The main report within this series describes the environmental monitoring undertaken during the construction phase in 2010–2011. The environmental monitoring reported in this document should be seen as a continuation of the preconstruction monitoring (Walney Offshore Windfarms 2012). Monitoring activities will continue post construction and will be reported annually to the licensing authority, as described in the Marine License (formerly the FEPA licence), for a period of up to three years. The environmental monitoring did not register any major or unforeseen environmental impacts during the construction of the wind farm. The technical reports from the surveys carried out are also provided within this series, as they form part of the appendices.

Title | The title is used to provide a brief and precise description of the dataset such as 'Date', 'Originating organisation/programme', 'Location' and 'Type of survey'. All acronyms and abbreviations should be reproduced in full. | 2010-2011, Walney Offshore Wind Farm, Construction Monitoring |
File Identifier | The File Identifier is a code, preferably a GUID, that is globally unique and remains with the same metadata record even if the record is edited or transferred between portals or tools. | 952c49df-d7a8-4a09-8165-effa8cca1220 |
Resource type | The resource type will likely be a dataset but could also be a series (collection of datasets with a common specification) or a service. | series |
Start date | This describes the date the resource starts. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2010 |
End date | This describes the date the resource ends. This may only be the year if month and day are not known | 2011 |
Spatial resolution | This describes the spatial resolution of the dataset or the spatial limitations of the service. | inapplicable |
Frequency of updates | This describes the frequency with which the resource is modified or updated i.e. a monitoring programme that samples once per year has a frequency that is described as 'annually'. | unknown |
