EGS International Ltd (EGSi), were contracted by Centrica Renewable Energy Limited (CREL) to undertake a side scan sonar (SSS) and multibeam (MBES) clearance survey centred on the no cable zone (400m x 400m) adjacent to WTGs LS23 & LS65 at the Lincs Offshore Wind Farm. The surveys were required to support the safe emplacement of a jack-up vessel adjacent to the WTG for maintenance purposes. This series details the operations and results of the survey around all turbines.

Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | Survey operations were carried out using the vessel EGS Pioneer on a 24-hour basis. A vessel induction was carried out upon personnel arrival on the survey vessel. The SSS and winch were mobilised and tested whilst alongside Lowestoft in the evening of 25th May 2017, before slipping ropes at 20:00. All members of crew and the vessel master were involved with tool box talks prior to the deployment and recovery of the SSS and sound velocity profiler (SVP). When using the back-deck area on board the vessel, all personnel wore full PPE including a life jacket and PLB. Once the vessel arrived at the Lincs site, a GAMS calibration for the MBES, and a positional verification for the SSS were completed. Data acquisition began at 11:40 on 26th May 2017, and was deemed complete that day at 20:25. This represented the end of survey operations, and the vessel began the transit back to Lowestoft for the continuation of a third-party contract. |
