Cyrrus Ltd has conducted an in depth assessment of all the aviation issues pertaining to the development of the R3 Atlantic Array. The R3 Atlantic Array is likely to be perceived as having an adverse operational impact on the performance of the following equipments: - Cardiff Airport's Primary Surveillance Radar (PSR) in the Lower Airspace Radar Service (LARS) role over the western half of Atlantic Array 1 and Atlantic Array East. - NATS' Burrington PSR in the Military Middle Airspace Radar Service role over Atlantic Arrays 1 and 2. - MoD's Hartland Point PSR in the LARS and Air Defence training role. - MoD's Manorbier PSR in establishing 'Clear Range' status in Danger Area 115B. The report concludes that the location of the R3 proposal brings many benefits, not least of which is a welcome reduction in the number of aviation related associations that will need to be approached for consultation. Many of the likely consultees only object to wind farms where they directly affect their members localised (land-based) operations; with the R3 Atlantic Array located offshore, many recreational aviation interests will not be affected and are unlikely to raise objections, once the detailed proposal is released into the public domain.
