This series presents data recorded from the Rampion Offshore Wind Farm Meteorological Mast erected approximately at Longitude 000 20 35.5 W Latitude 50 41 17.2N within the licence Area. Erection of the Met Mast and data recording was undertaken by FugroEMU Limited. The data recorded parameters between 2012 to 2014 and comprise measurements of Directional wave parameters, Current profiles, Water levels, Suspended sediment concentrations , Water temperature , Wind speed, gust and direction, Air temperature and pressure. The aim of recording data from the meteorological mast was to capture low frequency, high energy events and high frequency, low energy events in order to establish a description of the site conditions. The wind modelling data contains 10 minute intervals between 13.05.2012 to 21.01.2014

Lineage | Lineage includes the background information, history of the sources of data, data quality statements and methods. | The prospecting meteorological mast is provided to measure wind speeds and weather conditions at the proposed Rampion Wind Farm site location. The meteorological mast comprises several integrated systems that form the complete monitoring system. The power for the Datalogger system, primary and emergency Aids to navigation systems is supplied by three independent battery systems. The battery systems are recharged by an array of 36 solar panels that are located at the south side of the meteorological mast platform. The battery systems conditions are monitored by the dataloggers to ensure optimal battery health is maintained. The batteries cells are located within two separate protected battery enclosures that are positioned adjacent to the west side of the lattice tower. Temperature probes are used to measure the ambient conditions, and are fed back to the charge controllers where the charge voltage is adjusted depending on the ambient temperature of the batteries. The power cables are fed back toward the main equipment enclosure using the stainless steel cable tray that provides the cable transit between the equipment enclosure and the met mast. The aids to navigation systems consists of dual fog detectors, fog sounders, light sensors, LED navigation beacons and a single LED avionics beacon as well as an Active automatic identity system that logs the identity and proximity of passing ships that transmit AIS data. The meteorological mast automatically switches on the 10Nm navigation beacons and 2000Cd avionics beacon during low light conditions. Additionally the meteorological mast control system automatically switches on the fog signal and navigational lanterns when the visibility drops below 2 nautical miles. The critical navigational lanterns are monitored for faults by the Datalogger to remotely indicate any problems with any of the lanterns. The fog Signals and Navigation lanterns are also monitored to provide a historical reference of the ATON operations. The Rampion Met mast is a 91m tall lattice structure (93m including Top Boom) which is secured to the pile platform. The platform level is 17.46m above chart datum, The lattice mast base is 17.67m above chart datum. The instrumentation consists of 10 cup anemometers, 2 wind vanes, 3 relative humidity probes, 3 temperature probes and 3 barometric pressure sensors. There is also a laser precipitation classifier and a ADCP AWAC wave monitoring radar device deployed approximately 100m south of the pile. The met mast instrumentation is connected to two Campbell Scientific CR3000 Dataloggers where the raw data is processed and stored. The Datalogger is always available for interrogation or to download data via the two independent GSM network communications modems, and also a WiFi link. The communications system is based on Primary GSM communications, with one modem assigned to each of the two dataloggers. Additionally the dataloggers are also connected to a Ethernet ring, along with the AIS PC and CCTV and remote AWAC port. The Ethernet ring is accessible by a WiFi router that allows remote access to all of the Met Mast monitoring equipment. The communications strategy has been designed to allow a future satellite broadband system to become the primary form of communication with the met mast if required. |
