Sampling of the water column comprised physical oceanography data (including salinity, currents, temperature, suspended particles) and biogeochemical data (including nutrient concentrations, dissolved gasses, pigment concentrations, fluoresence). Atmospheric data were also collected. Cruise PD33/08 sailed from Birkenhead on 22nd October, 2008 and docked on Birkenhead in 23rd October, 2008. During the cruise data was collected from sites situated in Liverpool Bay. This cruise was undertaken as part of the Oceans 2025 - Theme 10: Integration of Sustained Observations in the Marine Environment - Sustained Observation 11: Irish Sea Liverpool Bay observatory. Data has been provided to BODC by the University of Liverpool Department of Earth Sciences, the Proudman Oceanographic Laboratory, the Centre for Environment and Fisheries and Aquaculture Science Lowestoft Laboratory. The data are held by the British Oceanographic Data Centre. During this cruise the ship visited the following repeatedly sampled locations: COA (53.5252 N, -3.3834 S), Coastal Observatory Site 33 (53.4582 N, -3.9218 S), Coastal Observatory Site 21 (53.4522 N, -3.6413 S), Coastal Observatory Site 24 (53.4535 N, -3.7865 S), Coastal Observatory Site 10 (53.4556 N, -3.2344 S), Coastal Observatory Site 11 (53.4512 N, -3.37186 S) and Coastal Observatory Site 12 (53.4513 N, -3.505 S). Data managers quality assure submissions and assemble the metadata necessary for curation. Submissions (as received) are placed in a long-term accession and stored in triplicate across multiple sites. Appropriate data are transferred into a standard internal format with source variable names mapped to controlled vocabularies, documentation assembled, and metadata loaded into BODC databases. Access to these data is through direct request, the BODC website and through partner repositories such as SeaDataNet. Access control is attained by assigning a data policy to each set of data and this policy is used to administer access when data are requested. Discovery metadata is aligned with EU INSPIRE (through MEDIN) and SeaDataNet community standards. Data are converted to open community formats including Ocean Data View ASCII and SeaDataNet NetCDF, with data described using terms from the NERC vocabulary server.
