Datasets include a processed bathymetry grid, sub-bottom profile, magnetics, gravity, ocean bottom seismometer (OBS) and multi-channel seismic (MCS) data. The aim was to sample fast-spreading ocean lithosphere of the northern Cocos Plate from its formation to subduction in the Mid-America Trench. MCS data were recorded along a linear transect with grids in three focus areas; two on the passively cooling oceanic plate, the third spanned the transition into the subduction zone. This work aimed to investigate the evolution of oceanic lithosphere as well as provide essential site survey information for two IODP Proposals: the flagship MoHole to Mantle initiative (M2M; IODP-805MDP) and the Bend Fault Serpentinization experiment (approved IODP-876Pre). The work was undertaken by scientists at the University of Southampton, UK, in collaboration with GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research, Germany, funded as part of NERC grant ‘From Ridge to Trench, MoHole to Bend-Faults’, grant reference NE/M021246/1. Data managers quality assure submissions and assemble the metadata necessary for curation. Submissions (as received) are placed in a long-term accession and stored in triplicate across multiple sites. Appropriate data are transferred into a standard internal format with source variable names mapped to controlled vocabularies, documentation assembled, and metadata loaded into BODC databases. Access to these data is through direct request, the BODC website and through partner repositories such as SeaDataNet. Access control is attained by assigning a data policy to each set of data and this policy is used to administer access when data are requested. Discovery metadata is aligned with EU INSPIRE (through MEDIN) and SeaDataNet community standards. Data are converted to open community formats including Ocean Data View ASCII and SeaDataNet NetCDF, with data described using terms from the NERC vocabulary server.
