The purpose of this dataset was to describe the sublittoral and sublittoral fringe communities on and around the mid-Wales sarnau (reefs), and to assess their scientific interest and nature conservation importance. Abundance scales were used to estimate the abundances of plant and animal species and all the information was later transferred to habitat forms and species checklists. Samples of pebbles and cobbles were collected for later identification of encrusting and cryptic species and a suction sampler was used at several sites to collect sediment infauna for later identification, using a quadrat of 0.075m2 and 10cm deep to collect replicate samples at each site.
