The purpose of the monitoring (funded by Shell UK Ltd.) was to detect any changes that might have occurred as a result of a Shell oil pipeline that runs from a terminal at sea off Amlwch across Anglesey to the mainland. Monitoring was carried out over 10 years from 1973 - 1983, with a resurvey in 1993.
