Samples were analysed for and data presented for TOxN (Total Oxidized Nitrogen = nitrate + nitrite), nitrite, soluble reactive silicate (SRS), orthophosphate, and ammoniacal nitrogen (ammonia + ammonium) and used to estimate nutrient fluxes between the seabed and overlying water column. At each station within a survey a NIOZ Box Corer was deployed collecting cores up to a maximum sediment depth of 30cm. A sipper filtration system was used to extract porewater at fixed core depths of 1, 2, 3, 5, 7.5, 10, 14, 17, & 20cm. The sample were then frozen at approximately -20 Deg C until analysis once returned to shore based laboratory. Analysis was performed on a Seal AnalyticalTM HR-AA3 Continuous Flow Analyser (CFA) using colorimetric methods for TOxN, nitrite, SRS, and orthophosphate, and a fluorometric method for ammoniacal nitrogen or a Seal AnalyticalTM QuAAtro CFA using colorimetric methods for TOxN, nitrite, SRS, orthophosphate, and ammoniacal nitrogen. The methods used are those described below modified for the AA3 by Seal AnalyticalTM or by NIOZ for the QuAAtro. - TOxN and nitrite: Bendschneider, K, and Robinson, R.J. (1952).
