Some hauls were targeted at Greenland halibut *(* *Reinhardtius hippoglossoides*). The purpose of this report is to fulfil the Greenlandic Authorities’ requirement to present observer-collected information on cod (for details see below), so the results for Greenland halibut (and other species taken) are not presented. In all, 116 tows targeting cod were carried out in two areas off the east coast of Greenland, of which 46 where sampled for length and 40 of the 46 for otoliths and other biological information. Discarded cod amounted to just 0.08% of the total catch of the species (some of these fish were damaged on hauling and processing). Her registered length is 62 m and she is powered by a 2700 kW main engine. Marbella fished with an otter trawl. Two nets were used: (i) the Stelstad net, with a 32m footrope and 28-inch hoppers plus a twin trouser codend constructed of 6-mm double-braided twine, and (ii) the Bacalao net, with a 42 m footrope and 29-inch hoppers plus a trouser codend constructed of 8-mm single-braided twine. Tow duration was on average 45 and 60 min for the northerly and southerly grounds, respectively, but was more variable for the southern area. Towing speeds were kept at around 2.8–3.6 knots, whenever possible. Fishing activity and biological sampling All shooting and hauling positions and trawl durations were captured on a database and checked for quality of data input. Standard methods were used by Cefas staff for sorting and recording catches on commercial fishing vessels. Catches of cod were quantified and classified as discarded or retained according to advice from the fishing crew. When catches were sampled rather than fully sorted, an appropriate raising factor was determined to allow the total catch to be estimated. For each component (retained and discarded), length measurements of cod were obtained and the sex and maturity of fish sampled for otoliths were recorded. These data were captured on the database and checked for quality of data input. MEDIN 3.1.1
