The fishing vessel *Kiroan* was chartered to carry out 15 days of fishing with a twin-rig otter trawl on the plaice fishing grounds off Morecambe Bay during September and October 2004. Diamond-mesh cod-ends of mesh size 110mm were fitted for 38 hauls and a mesh size of 80mm for 26 hauls. **Western Irish Sea** - used three quite different types of *Nephrops* vessels: the FV Golden Bells II (a twin-rig vessel), the FV Rhodanna (a single-rig *Nephrops* trawler over 12m long) and the FV Margreta M (a single-rig *Nephrops* trawler less than 12m long).
