This survey was undertaken by Cefas as part of the North Sea Groundfish
Survey, Qtr 4 (FSS: IBTS4E);
Approximately 70 core trawl stations are completed annually to provide
distribution and stock composition estimates for fish species. Station, catch,
length (all species) and biological data (selected species) are collected
using research vessels and GOV trawls. Benthic catches are also recorded. The
surveys are carried out in support of EU data regulations and as part of the
Internation Bottom Trawl survey. Additional aims include collection of water
temperature, salinity and litter data.
Survey took place between 23/10/1996 and 23/11/1996 on Cirolana
Equipment used during this survey :
- Benthic Sampling Gear Jennings 2m Beam Trawl Standard spec.
- Bottle Casts Niskin bottles IBTS standard cast
- Otter Trawl GOV 36/47 IBTS spec with 6 Balmoral Kites, 50 floats, metal
discs in footrope
- Otter Trawl GOV Long Wing 36/47 Standard IYFS Spec.
Survey operations were undertaken on 222 stations
159 different species were caught on this survey
