Data were checked in Microsoft Excel 2016 for taxonomic discrepancies and formatting issues which were then addressed. Species names were cross checked with taxonomic information available in the World Register of Marine Species. Duplicated records for a species within each UK sub-region were removed so that numbers recorded for each UK sub-region were not overestimated. Crucially, it was ensured that the first record (earliest) for a species was used. The time period used was selected as it represents two six year periods (2003 to 2008 and 2009 to 2014), from which data was complete and available. The data enables comparison of new records of non-indigenous species between two 6 year reporting periods to be demonstrated. MEDIN 3.1.1
