There are two gridded products, yearly winter mean nitrogen concentrations, and yearly winter mean phosphate concentrations. The data covers the period 1990 - 2014 and is at 0.111° x 0.067° resolution. Winter means are also provided for a set of regions used for eutrophication assessments: MSFD regions, regional seas, WFD coastal areas, and Ecohydrodynamic regions. Files: ntra_winter_1990_2012.nc, ntra_winter_2013_2014.nc, phos_winter_1990_2012.nc, phos_winter_2013_2014.nc contain gridded winter means for the years indicated. 2013 and 2014 are in separate files as the model grid changed slightly after this point. ntra_MSFD_winter_means_1990_2014.csv and phos_MSFD_winter_means_1990_2014.csv contain winter nitrate and phosphate means for each of the MSFD regions: Greater North Sea and Celtic Seas for the years 1990 - 2014. ntra_RegionalSeas_winter_means_1990_2014.csv and phos_RegionalSeas_winter_means_1990_2014.csv contain winter nitrate and phosphate means for each of the regional seas (1-8, also known as charting progress 2 regions) for the years 1990 - 2014. ntra_WFD_coastal_winter_means_1990_2014.csv and phos_WFD_coastal_winter_means_1990_2014.csv contain winter nitrate and phosphate means for each of the WFD coastal assessment regions, for the years 1990 - 2014. ntra_Ecohydro_winter_means_1990_2014.csv and phos_Ecohydro_winter_means_1990_2014.csv contain winter means for Ecohydrodynamic regions (cropped to the MSFD regions). Copernicus Marine Service Information. Monthly values from modelling data (CMEMS product 004_011 METO-NWS-REAN-BIO-MONTHLY-NTR/PHOS) were used to obtain winter mean values of nitrate concentrations to plot time series and assessment levels for MSFD regions and other reporting regions (such as applied under the WFD and OSPAR assessments). Winter season nutrient concentrations include data from November to February for each winter (including Jan and Feb from one calendar year, and Nov and Dec from the previous year). Winter mean values of nutrient concentrations are calculated at 0.111° x 0.067° resolution, using data from 1990 to 2014, extracting data from the upper 15m (layers at 0m, 3m, 10m, and 15m). Data layers are averaged over depth and time to obtain winter surface nitrate for each winter season. Processing was done in python (part A): 1. Load netcdfs 2.
