Attention had been drawn to large catches of ‘non-target’ species and juvenile fish by gillnets intended mainly for catching red mullet, a high-value species generally found by inshore fishers at the edge of rough ground in concentrations peaking towards the end of the summer. Towed gears also catch significant quantities of red mullet in deeper water of the western English Channel at other times of the year. MEDIN 3.1.1
