Randomly selected survey position design. In 2012 the survey coverage was extended to cover the Celtic Sea using both the 4m beam trawl and the GOV trawl. In 2013 the survey returned to using the 4m beam trawl only. Additional aims include collection of benthic, water temperature and salinity and acoustic data. Data collected using the Cefas electronic data capture system (EDC), and uploaded to the Cefas Fishing Survey System (FSS) database. The first tow of the survey is often a "test" tow and is sometimes fished outside of the main survey grid. Data captured include station details, catch, length (all species) and biological (selected species) data. Biological samples are returned to the laboratory for processing and age determination.
