Data were collated from publicly available sources and evaluated for the temporal trends relating to OWFs. The list of the UKs OWF was taken from The Crown Estate and Crown Estate Scotland. Only large-scale commercial deployments of the UK’s Round 1, 2 and 3 OWF were considered. Developments of five or fewer turbines were classed as demonstrator projects and excluded from the study. The number of turbines for each development was noted along with the installation vessels used. The size and type of foundation were also recorded. Information was sourced directly from the developer’s website however, in many cases these provided only minimal details about the OWF with no specifics on construction activity. Data were then sourced from the publicly accessible information on the Planning Inspectorate of the UK Department of Housing, Communities and Local Government, and the Marine Management Organisation’s Public Licensing Register, `www.4COffshore.com`_ and `www.renewableUK.com`_. Data gaps were filled using a combination of web search engines, and peer-reviewed material. The following search terms were: “OWF name”, “OWF name construction” “OWF pile diameter”, “OWF vessel”. We were unable to find sufficient data on the installation of the tower and nacelles for several OWF or use of scour protection, so these were excluded from the study.
