Location co-ordinates have been estimated from description and map given. From the Introduction: M. modiolus populations are very abundant in the North Irish Sea around the Isle of Man. The distribution of the species around the south of the Island was described by Jones (1951) who found it to occur in a very large and well-established bed. The present day distribution of Modiolus is probably very similar, though there have been no recent attempts to survey the precise limits of the beds.
