The survey was undertaken using SCUBA techniques and concentrated on the mapping of associations and their habitats as described in the report of the Second Dorset Underwater Survey in 1978. The seaward extent of the survey area was variable but reached a maximum of 2.5km from the coast, near Seatown. Sites from the littoral zone to 18m below chart datum were visited. Data were obtained from 40 sites most of which were in the sublittoral, though five were in the littoral zone.
