The records include taxonomic information (genera and species) as well as information on the collector and identifier of each specimen, and the date and location of the collection. The vast majority of records from the British Isles, however some are from France and Spain. The database also includes information on the availability of specimens in other herbaria. On average, records of nineteenth-century specimens are less precise (both in terms of people and locations) than specimens collected since 1950. When people are recorded, we are able to cross-reference with other records to verify potentially questionable information. The biggest discrepancy in precision regarding where specimens were collected: these can vary from a precise (e.g. R113/2/25: "Between Asia Shoal and Drake's Island") or not (many specimens were collected in the "Devon area"). A number of specimens were also photographed during the digitization of the catalogue.
