Dan Lear Data Archive for Seabed Species and Habitats (DASSH) 01752 633102 01752 633291 Marine Biological Association of the UK, The Laboratory, Citadel Hill Plymouth PL1 2PB dassh.enquiries@mba.ac.uk distributor dataset The internal growth banding patterns in the shells of M. modiolus were examined including a brief report on size distribution, growth rate and longevity of this species from several contrasted localities around the United Kingdom. Samples of M. modiolus were obtained from eight localities around the United Kingdom. With the exception of the intertidal specimens from Penrhyn bay in North Wales and the samples from the submerged legs of the Forties Bravo drilling platform in the North Sea, all other mussels were collected from subtidal semi-infaunal benthic populations. This survey was collated by MarLIN as part of a data collation contract for species on the provisional list of Nationally Important Marine Features.
