To achieve this aim, an extensive drop-down video drift survey of the component habitats of the feature was undertaken at 60 sites on the 6th and 7th of September 2016 from the Scottish Natural Heritage RIB Aphrodite. This survey also contributes to site condition monitoring of the Sound of Arisaig SAC and refine the distribution of Habitats Directive Annex 1 habitats - subtidal sandbank sub-types, maerl and eelgrass. At each site a dropdown video system was deployed just above the seabed for drifts of a few minutes. A high definition video camera was employed at the sites in combination with a lower resolution navigation camera. A video overlay display provided time, date and position data along the runs. depth overlay was lacking, but details were provided for the start and end of the video runs. The imagery were used to describe the nature of the seabed, in terms of the physical structure and the species assemblages. Species present were, as far as possible, identified and quantified using the MNCR SACFOR scale. Based on the physical and biological attributes, biotopes were allocated using the 2004 Marine Habitat Classification for Britain and Ireland (version 04.05). Where video runs traversed different habitats, the run was split into the corresponding segments, each of which was labelled as a separate video sample.
