The study was carried out by P Rodhouse. There are six beds of oysters in the estuary of the Beaulieu River, of which all beds are sublittoral. A side-scan sonar survey showed that the positions of the oyster beds correspond closely with areas of gravel bottom. This survey was collated by MarLIN as part of a data collation contract for species on the provisional list of nationally important marine features (Lieberknecht et al. 2004).
