In 1976 two specimens collected from Lundy Island, in the Bristol Channel, have revealed the taxonomic identity of this species with the Mediterranean Caloria maculata, and allowed a full re-description to be given from living adult specimens. Caloria maculata and Facelina quatrefagesi are shown to be synonyms of Facelina elegans.The genus Caloria is considered valid and F. elegans is transferred to this genus.
