String was used to mark the line and a tape was used to locate the quadrat positions and to mark any major changes in communities. Quadrats (0.25 m sq.) were recordered along the transect at the same intervals as the previous survey from 1986. The number of species in each quadrat were counted, however, if there were too many to count then an estimate of percentage cover was used.
