The site to the east of the Humber estuary is a dump site for a mixture of sewage sludge and industrial wastes. The 'Control' site off the Norfolk coast is distant from known point source inputs. Modiolus is abundant at both sites and is widely distributed in the Humber-Wash area. The study was conducted in February - March (1984-1985) and in June (1986-87) using scallop or anchor dredges.
