Quantitative drop-down camera sampling, undertaken at 17 stations, was used to collect this data. Through the analysis of seabed video, the images were used to describe the nature of the seabed in terms of the physical structure and the species assemblages. Runs and run segments were assessed for the presence of protected features and other PMFs, as well as for the presence of species and habitats of recognised conservation importance. A total of 17 stations were sampled using drop-down video camera. Images were obtained using a SubC1cam alpha video camera and a Kongsberg OE14-408 underwater digital stills camera. The video frame carried a Seatronics lighting system and lasers set to 848mm apart and the small square of laser 64 mm each side. Digital still photographs were taken at intervals with the camera frame landed. A high definition (HD) video camera was deployed, recording footage at a resolution of 1920x1080. No time, date, positional or depth overlay information is available for this footage. Analyses of the video footage was undertaken by SNH contractor Dr Colin Moore to describe the physical structure and species assemblages present. Species present were identified and quantified using the semi-quantitative MNCR SACFOR scale, as far as possible. Biotopes were allocated based on the biological and physical attributes. Where the video run traversed a sequence of biotopes, the run is split into corresponding segments with the transition points recorded using the time, position and depth (only available for the start of video runs). Depths were converted to depth below chart datum, employing TotalTide software to determine tidal rise.
