Secondly, in view of the rapid uptake of mercury by the gills, a more detailed investigation of the mechanism and kinetics of this process was made. Ostrea edulis were collected from a natural population in the Beaulieu River, Hampshire. This survey was collated by MarLIN as part of a data collation contract for species on the provisional list of Nationally Important Marine Features.
