Fauna was primarily investigated with a 0.1m2 van Veen bottom sampler. Positions of stations were fixed by compass bearings on prominent objects, assisted by the presence of dahn buoys anchored by Platessa (research vessel). Where ten samples were taken at one station, a buoy was anchored and the samples taken within a small radius around the buoy. Samples was washed through a sieve with holes 2mm in diameter, and the animals preserved in 5% formalin. On returning to Port Erin the animals were sorted, identified, counted and weighed after removing excess moisture.
