Over 500 record cards have been collected, the majority from the rocky sublittoral. Relative abundance and distributions have been determined for 14 individual species. The three recording projects were carried out over a six year period. The schemes were The Species Recording Scheme (SRS), The Observation Scheme (OBS) and North Wales Project (NWP). Divers were asked to record on preprinted cards observations of species on a check list. The SRS in its final form contained 70 species and the NWP 19. The OBS asked for records of observations which were of interest to the diver. There was no standard methodology, participants were free to dive where they chose, and although they frequently recorded the presence of species not listed on the checklist, the absence of a species may only be inferred if a checklist was used. Records from the nearshore shallow sublittoral covering an area from St. Tudwals Isles (SH345260) in the south to Puffin Island (SH655825) in the north are used. This includes the Lleyn Penisula, the Island of Anglesey, and the Menai Strait but within this does not include the areas of soft substrata.
