At each site a transect was identified by metal bolts that had been used to set up the transects in 1986. Quadrats (0.25 m sq.) were recorded along the transect at 5m, 10m or 20m intervals. This was continued down the shore at intervals to the furthest extent at extreme low tide. Within each quadrat the number of species was counted, however, if the number was too great then an estimate or percentage covered was given. The survey was conducted for the Helford Voluntary Marine Conservation Area Group by Pamela E Tompsett, Brain and Elizabeth Jackson, Dr Paul Gainey and Andrew Tompsett, with funding from the World Wildlife Fund for Nature and English Nature. Nb. positions were only recorded at the top and bottom of the transect and not for each individual quadrat, therefore there will be a difference of upto 100m from the recorded grid ref depending on the location of each quadrat.
