The larva was kept alive, fed on copepods in the laboratory, and moulted after about fourteen days captivity into the young adult from about 20 mm. in length, which gradually developed pigmentation approaching that of the adult. This survey was collated by MarLIN as part of a data collation contract for species on the provisional list of nationally important marine features (Lieberknecht et al. 2004).
