JMBA Dan Lear Data Archive for Seabed Species and Habitats (DASSH) 01752 633102 01752 633291 Marine Biological Association of the UK, The Laboratory, Citadel Hill Plymouth PL1 2PB dassh.enquiries@mba.ac.uk distributor dataset A combination of dredge, grab and diving techniques were used to perform a survey of sublittoral algae in Port Erin Bay, Isle of Man. Two distinct populations were found, one attached to rock surface on the sides of the bay and the other more or less loose-lying on its sandy floor. A spring grab was used to sample 75cm squares, which were then used in much the same way as a quadrat. On a number of occasions a diver completed clearance of squares incompletely cleared by the grab. Depths were measured with a lead line and grab positions were determined by taking sextant readings on to accurately charted positions on the shore.
